Sexy Fish – The Hottest Place in London

imageSexy Fish, the most lavish London restaurant in years. I’m not sure I can add anything to what’s already been said about “that” name other than that I think I kind of love it. Other restaurateurs, please note: only Caprice  gets away with stuff like this. Don’t let’s start a silly name trend.main
The Asian-inspired seafood menu is an almost overwhelming read taking in everything from oysters, caviar and whole lobsters to sashimi, tataki and tartares from the raw bar, skewers, robata dishes, tempura and salads. You feel like the king or the queen of London dining at this Restaurant – the fish is indeed sexy.

Dangerous Liaisons in London – The Domar

7ecd45cc-5f41-41d2-88ec-c55acfe10327-2060x1236If you want to see one more play this year make it LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES at the Donmar Warehouse in London. The run starts on December 11 and this is the plotFormer lovers, the Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont now compete in games of seduction and revenge. Merteuil incites Valmont to corrupt the innocent Cecile de Volanges before her wedding night but Valmont has targeted the peerlessly virtuous and beautiful Madame de Tourvel. While these merciless aristocrats toy with others’ hearts and reputations, their own may prove more fragile than they supposed.
All of this is not really important once you know that the play features Dominic West (The Wire) and Michelle Dockery (Yes – Lady Mary from Downton Abbey) as well as Jane McTeer.

A Hamburger That Thinks He’s a Hot Dog – Freddar Dog

BYN_Summer1_Web_Thumb_1The UK hamburger chain Byron Burger has a new thing: The Freddar Dawg, is a hamburger that thinks it’s a hot dog – a 6oz hamburger in a hot dog roll. Along with streaky bacon, pickles and onion, it stars one very special ingredient you won’t find anywhere else – Freddar cheese, our head chef Fred’s take on American cheese. Freddar has all the melting goodness of classic American cheese, but with a serious flavour punch thanks to Fred’s unique blend of Grana Padano, mature Cheddar and Red Leicester. Grana Padano, mature Cheddar and Red Leicester. Pretty funny and pretty deliciousCLVDf1TWIAEGOei

Three Days in The Country – National Theater Rocks

ThreeDays_Web_Poster_NoTextThis is the Theater event of the summer. Make sure you see this masterpiece and the performances of  Amanda Drew and John Simm. The National Theater at its best. Book your flight to London.

Russia. A beautiful country estate.
The mid-nineteenth century.

A handsome new tutor brings reckless, romantic desire to an eccentric household. Over three days one summer the young and the old will learn lessons in love: first love and forbidden love, maternal love and platonic love, ridiculous love and last love. The love left unsaid and the love which must out.

Ivan Turgenev’s passionate, moving comedy, A Month in the Country, has been a source of inspiration for films, a ballet and the plays of Chekhov. It’s presented here in a new version by Patrick Marber whose work includes Closer and The Red Lion

Dig Inn – Real Good Food For Everybody

20150121181025-diginn-marketplace-tofuThis is what Dig Inn – a new fast food chain that follows the trend of farm to counter set out to do and they do it well: We believe everyone deserves to eat well, even on a budget. So we’re democratizing the farm-to-table movement by offering ridiculously good food at a reasonable price.dig-inn-adam-eskin-letterboard-rectangle-1

That means sourcing local, seasonal ingredients – not just because they are ‘local’ – but because fresh, healthy ingredients taste best. That means you’ll find grills, flames, and all the other good stuff people use to cook real food behind our counters. If there’s a steak on your salad, we’re grilling it ourselves, on the spot.Screen-shot-2015-02-23-at-11.17.04-AM

Markthal Rotterdam – Pretty Damn Cool

panorama-markthal-rotterdamTrendEngel loves food and especially buying food. What cooler place to do so than the market. While Markthalle 9 in Berlin remains a favorite – there is a new kid on the block – the Markthal Rotterdam.

This €175m conjuring trick is the work of MVRDV, leaders of the wave of “Superdutch” architects that emerged in the Netherlands in the 1990s, spawned from Rem Koolhaas’s Office of Metropolitan Architecture. Driven by poppy polemic, their projects are characterised by improbable structural feats, executed with cartoonish glee. These are “look, no hands!” buildings, where slabs appear to float and towers teeter on the brink of toppling; architectural circus acts that are often dressed up in accordingly garish garb.

markthal-rotterdam2Their unlikely structures – which now dot the globe from Oslo to Tokyo – are often initiated by equally fantastical questions: What if pig farms were housed in high-rise towers? What if a comic museum was shaped like a cluster of enormous concrete speech bubbles? At their worst, the answers to these daydreams prioritise wit and wow factor over functional reality; at their best, the jaw-drop is so powerful that all else can be forgiven. So does their latest project manage to tread this fine line?

Nobelhart & Schmutzig – Das Beste Deutsche Restaurant

For a change in German:

So wunderbar!
