Graffiti of the Week – Street Art Nr. 195
Serial Season 2 – A Huge Surprise
‘Serial’ is the biggest podcast in the world. The fist season told the story of Adnan Syed, a Baltimore high school student who was found guilty in 2000 of murdering his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee. This season is very different. It is set in Afghanistan. Twenty minutes after Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl walked away from his remote Army outpost in Afghanistan in the middle of a summer night, carrying little more than vacuum-packed chicken, knives, water and a compass, he began to realize just how dire his predicament was. He was captured by the Taliban for 5 years until Obama made a deal to set him free in 2014. Now he is waiting for his trial. What is the story of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl? TrendEngel didn’t expect to like it as much as TrendEngel does. This is amazing.

TrendEngel Award 2015 – Best Product
A smart–and scarily predictive–wireless speaker: Wi-Fi- and Bluetooth-enabled, Cone is voice activated and connects directly to cloud-based music services and radio stations. The speaker, which goes for around 400 Euro, plays music and other programs, such as podcasts, on the basis of your likes–but it also learns your dislikes, as if it were your own personal DJ. If you tend to skip Irish folk music, for instance, it’ll stop suggesting the genre. Similarly, it’ll learn to automatically play smooth jazz on Friday evenings if that’s your thing. The embarrassing thing: TrendEngel discovered the product too late and you know what. The Cone is no more – it is gone and it’s too late. Sad sad sad…

Luxsit is Latin for “Let There Be Light”
This sounds like marketing talk and it somehow is – but TrendEngel is a fan of the products the two young SwedesTheresia Dibingers and Jenny Kärner have developed for their brand Luxsit. Elements such as collagen, elastin and cell formation are things that we take for granted, but are constantly active processes in the skin. The most nutrient dense cell boosting phyto-botanical extracts are found where the climate has harsh seasons, extreme cold, wet spring with very ”strong” sun, dry and hot summers and windy autumn. As a result, Luxsit combines the science found in nature with a unique phyto-botanical technology in all of their skincare and hair care products. Watch out for their beautiful stores – one will open up soon near you…
Coffee Lab – Coffee is a Science in Sao Paulo
People in Sao Paulo take their coffee very seriously. The best of the mall is the Coffee Lab created by Isabella Raposeiras.
The cafe is split up into indoor and outdoor seating. Towards the back of the cafe is an open kitchen furnished with an espresso bar, tools of the trade, and minimal kitchen appliances with staff dressed in mechanic inspired onesies working away. The front of the cafe is equipped with the industry’s best Diedrich coffee roasters since Coffee Lab roasts its own beans and creates its very own unique blends. Beans are also sold for retail in individual packages in store.
The menu is essentially an educational coffee booklet consisting of a variety of in house coffee blends with four main brewing methods including aeropress, pour over, french press and clever. Hot and cold espresso beverages, food, and desserts are also available. The most interesting part of the menu is the “Coffee Rituals” which pretty much schools you in coffee. Each ritual is essentially a lesson on coffee such as “compare the coffee Brazilians drink every day with one of our specialty coffees” or “enjoy the same coffee prepared with an Aeropress and a French Press.”
For a short course on coffee, order Ritual 13, a “Rare Brazilian micro-lot tasting” which involves an in depth tasting and analysis of coffee served in wine glasses perfect for coffee nerds.
Paul Smith for Caran d’Ache
Paul Smith who has been a regular user of the 849 for many years wished to pay a distinctive tribute to Caran d’Ache to celebrate the 100th anniversary.
Thirty shades that featured in Paul Smith’s recent fashion collections have been added to 70 of Caran d’Ache’s colour chart selected by him. The Caran d’Ache craftsmen have then produced the designer’s special assortment of 100 pieces, where each 849 pen carries his signature. This harmonious, stunning composition of colours calls for a special presentation box worthy of its contents. Caran d’Ache and Paul Smith have created a stylish metal box in immaculate white that dramatically highlights the colours inside. A narrow window in the top of the box subtly reveals the band of stripes that is his famous motif.
This creative collaboration has also produced a limited edition of 849 that has become a fashion icon, in 10 exclusive pastel shades selected by Paul Smith.
