Whiplash – This is the Movie Deserving the Oscar

whiplash6This is possibly the best movie of the year. Intense and gratifying in every way. Whiplash rocks (or jazzes?). The film stars Miles Teller as a young jazz drummer who attends one of the best music schools in the country under the tutelage of the school’s fearsome maestro of jazz (J. K. Simmons). Those who find Jazz utterly boring and ancient will be taught a lesson. It ain’t. Whiplash is cinema at its best and J.K. Simmons is the new Marlon Brando – kind of – a shoe in for best supporting actor at the Oscars.

Electricity – Agyness Deyn Can Act

electricity-film-tie-inShe was the it girl for years but eventually that was not enough for Agyness Deyn. When she started acting, people would think: what the hell. But she proved everybody wrong. The new movie Electricity is a little masterpiece and it’s all down to Ms. Deyn. A journey seen through the eyes of a young woman with epilepsy that brings extraordinary hallucinations as she searches for her long lost brother. Here is the Trailer:

Serial – Best Podcast Ever

141023_CBOX_SerialPodcast.jpg.CROP.promovar-mediumlargeWho would have thought that the best show of the year is not on TV but is a bloody podcast. It is called Serial and it is just brilliant. Actually more than brilliant. Serial is a podcast exploring a nonfiction story over multiple episodes. First released in October 2014, it is a spinoff of the radio program This American Life. Season 1 is an investigation into a 1999 Baltimore murder. Hae Min Lee was an 18-year-old student at Woodlawn High School. Lee was last seen at approximately 3:00 p.m. on January 13, 1999. Her corpse was discovered on February 9 in Leakin Park and identified two days later, with the case immediately being treated as a homicide. Lee’s ex-boyfriend Adnan Musud Syed was arrested on February 28 at 6 a.m. and charged with first-degree murder, which led to “some closure and some peace” for Lee’s family. A memorial service for Lee was held on March 11 at Woodlawn High School. Syed was found guilty of Lee’s murder on February 25, 2000 after a six-week trial, and was given a life sentence despite pleading his innocence.

The Imitation Game – Benedict Cumberbatch

MV5BNDkwNTEyMzkzNl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNTAwNzk3MjE@._V1_SY317_CR0,0,214,317_AL_Benedict Cumberbatch is possibly the greatest actor we have right now and The Imitation Game is a great great movie about the sad story of how the English mathematician and logician, Alan Turing, helps crack the Enigma code during World War II and how the savior of western civilization was treated after the war had ended.

But definitely funnier is this:
