For some Pixar is for kids only. This is narrow-minded thinking.“Inside Out” is an absolute delight — funny and charming, fast-moving and full of surprises. It is also a defense of sorrow, an argument for the necessity of melancholy dressed in the bright colors of entertainment. The youngest viewers will have a blast, while those older than Riley are likely to find themselves in tears. Not of grief, but of gratitude and recognition. Sadness, it turns out, is not Joy’s rival but her partner. Our ability to feel sad is what stirs compassion in others and empathy in ourselves. There is no growth without loss, and no art without longing.

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl – This is Good
For once TrendEngel is quoting a critic. David Ehrlich of TIme Out fame says abut Me and Earl and the Dying Girl: What begins as a spirited but safely familiar pastiche of John Hughes and Wes Anderson is compelled to become its own thing, Gomez-Rejon’s film embracing the most tired tropes of stereotypical YA weepies so that it can kiss them goodbye. What a cast: Thomas Mann, Olivia Cooke, RJ Cyler, Nick Offerman, Molly Shannon and Connie Britton. The trailer:
The Brink – Jack Black and Tim Robbins for HBO
Holy shit, that looks fun. As Robbins says, “Congratulations, this plan is off to a great start.” You figured that out, right? Jack Black is out in the powderkeg called Pakistan to prevent World War III. In the mix are the Secretary oTheBrink_Titlecardf State and an ace fighter pilot. Tim Robbins is the D. C. official; Pablo Schreiber is the Navy flyboy and Aasif Mandvi is Black’s liaison. Sure, that’s a perfect setup for comedy. At least this clip makes it look that way.

The Lobster – A Cannes Favourite
The festival in Cannes is in full swing and one of the coolest fix is The Lobster by Greec director yogos Lanthimos. This is the plot: In a dystopian near future, single people are obliged to find a matching mate in 45 days or are transformed into animals and released into the woods.
This couldn’t be stranger, right. But what a cast: Rachel Weisz, Colin Farrell, Lea Seydoux, John C. Reilly and Ben Winshaw. No trailer yet but we will add one as soon as it’s available.
The Overnight – Great Cast – Great Movie
The plot isn’t really exceptional:Alex, Emily, and their son, RJ, are new to Los Angeles. A chance meeting at the park introduces them to the mysterious Kurt, Charlotte, and Max. A family “playdate” becomes increasingly interesting as the night goes on.
What is amazing is the cast. Jason Schwartzman, Adam Scott, Taylor Schilling and Judice Godreche. So much fun. Here is the trailer:
True Detective – Nothing Stays The Same
What an idea. You have an amazing hit show everybody loves. You have McConaughey and Harrelson and you have critics at your feet. Then you start season 2 with a completely different cast. Crazy. But maybe not. True Detective is going down that route. Season 2 has Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitch and Rachel McAdams. I don’t want to tell you too much about the plot of the season – but check out the trailer before the season starts June 26th:
Entourage – The New Trailer is Promising
The Entourage movie is one of the most anticipated flicks of the year. For those who can’t wait here is the new trailer. Looks decadent as usual but fingers crossed it will be as much fun as the legendary TV series:
It Follows – Real Horror
For 19-year-old Jay (Maika Monroe), fall should be about school, boys and weekends out at the lake. But after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter, she finds herself plagued by strange visions and the inescapable sense that someone, or something, is following her.
Do we need to say more? Real Horror, really good – in a cinema near you very soon:
The Jinx – The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst
Filmmaker Andrew Jarecki examines the complicated life of reclusive real estate scion, Robert Durst, the key suspect in a series of unsolved crimes. TrendEngel doesn’t want to give away much more as this would spoil all the fun – but we can make one promise. You will not forget Robert Durst. Thanks HBO for another great documentary. Little tipp: there are full episodes on Youtube. Her eis he trailer:
While We’re Young – Noah Baumbach
Noah Baumbach (Frances Ha, Squid and the Whale, Greenberg) is one of the most innovative directors in Hollywood. While We Were Young is his newest masterpiece. Naomi Watts, Amanda Seyfried, Adam Driver and Ben Stiller are having marriage trouble. Watch the trailer and fall in love:
