The Lobster – A Cannes Favourite

imageThe festival in Cannes is in full swing and one of the coolest fix is The Lobster by Greec director yogos Lanthimos. This is the plot: In a dystopian near future, single people are obliged to find a matching mate in 45 days or are transformed into animals and released into the woods.

This couldn’t be stranger, right. But what a cast: Rachel Weisz, Colin Farrell, Lea Seydoux, John C. Reilly and Ben Winshaw. No trailer yet but we will add one as soon as it’s available.

Bao in London – One of the Best Ever

Bao-London-Classic-bunBao is London’s equivalent of New York’s classic Momofuku’s Ssäm Bar – TrendEngel tells you this is even better. . The restaurant’s name derives from gua bao: fluffy white steamed buns, in this case filled with braised pork, sprinkled with peanut powder, and yours for £3.75. Other sorts of bao (bun) are more slider-like, such as little burger baps wrapped around soy-milk-marinated chicken, sichuan mayo and kimchi. There’s even a dessert bao – made with doughnut batter and filled with Horlicks ice cream – that echoes the malted cereal milks at NYC’s Momofuku Milk Bar.

Lili K. – She Could Be the Next Amy Winehouse

0004380207_10These comparisons are easily drawn and mostly wrong. The next Amy Winehouse – we read that hundreds of times. But this time…just maybe we have something special. Lili K is from Chicago, and if you’re any kind of local music fan in Chicago, you’ve heard Lili K.’s voice. You just might not have realized it. The wispy melodies backing up Chance The Rapper on his Acid Rap smash “Pusha Man.” The soulful temptress singing harmony on Vic Mensa’s “Hollywood.” The jazz cover of Disclosure’s “Latch” with vocals well beyond the owner’s years that floated around the Internet late last year. It’s all Lili.
Ruby is the name of the local singer’s forthcoming album and it leaves no question as to where her true musical allegiances lie. Lili embodies a classic jazz singer with her voice and emulates the golden age of Motown and soul with her style. She’s as refreshing and wholesome as the television sitcoms we associate with the same era. The video for (not to mention the sound of) “Tommy,” Ruby’s lead single, is a throwback in more ways than one.

Here is the lead single:

and here is a bit of background on her:

Kris Ruhs – Superstar Artist in the Making?

5456297TrendEngel had the opportunity to see this artists show recently in Milano. The buzz is tremendous and people say he could be the next big thing – This sounds very strange if you are aware that Kris Rhus was born in New York in 1952 but looking at his oeuvre and his ability to integrate structure into his work makes you wonder why Rhus was not discovered decades ago. 30052012040458M_sfondo14 This video shows you some of his work from 3 years ago (400 views – so this is grass roots at its best:
