Aurora from Norway – This is Magic

sounds-of-norway-aurora-aknesDescribing herself as a “dreamer and a thinker,” Aurora started making music when she was just nine years old. Now 19, she’s dropped a number of wonderfully delicate tracks. This little girl from Bergen in Norway is ready to conquer the world. TrendEngel had the privilege to see her perform at The Great Escape in Brighten the other day. All acoustic in a an overcrowded  tent. The audience was glued to every word she sang and whispered. Magic.
This is why Aurora is having a magic aura:

The Brink – Jack Black and Tim Robbins for HBO

5502eb9e9689cbfa72bf46bb_the-brink-hbo-roberto-kim-benabib-jerry-weintraub-tim-robbins-jack-blackHoly shit, that looks fun. As Robbins says, “Congratulations, this plan is off to a great start.” You figured that out, right? Jack Black is out in the powderkeg called Pakistan to prevent World War III. In the mix are the Secretary oTheBrink_Titlecardf State and an ace fighter pilot. Tim Robbins is the D. C. official; Pablo Schreiber is the Navy flyboy and Aasif Mandvi is Black’s liaison. Sure, that’s a perfect setup for comedy. At least this clip makes it look that way.

Globe Skateboards are Just Beautiful

baby_miller_cupcake_waterblue_15bThis Australian brand is around since 1994 and is just amazing. When it comes to design this is probably as good as it gets. Just get a board and start chilling. Globe was founded by two brothers down under and has conquered this world.  I know these boards are around a bit. But I just saw the new designs and they are amazing. These are some of the boards TrendEngel likes the most:globeglobe-skate-bantam-transparent-yellow-blue

Studio Ilse for Ikea – This is Perfection

150204_ILSE_IKEA_0129_0Furniture giant Ikea has collaborated with London designer Ilse Crawford to launch a range of cork and natural-fibre homeware products. Unveiled during an event at Crawford’s Ett Hem hotel in Stockholm yesterday, the Sinnerlig collection heavily features natural materials and neutral colours that were chosen to fit into any home.

Ikea-ilse-1The first collaboration between Ikea and Studioilse contains a range of around 30 products – from larger furniture pieces such as cork-covered tables and a daybed down to hand-blown glass bottles. The daybed might be TrendEngel’s favorite. Crawford says: “Cork is very much a part of our range, because of its acoustic properties and it works great with glass.”

Aldous Harding – As Gifted as Lorde

1546006_605640022898459_6757307861506725115_nWell, the comparison is rather obvious. If you are 17 and from New Zealand and are about to conquer the world there has to be a parallel drawn to Lorde.  At least when it comes to song writing and quirky looks Aldous Harding is an easy comparison.

Aldous Harding got her start in Lyttelton, a port town on the outskirts of Christchurch. There she has kept sailors in check with cheek and a strong-songed tongue. She caught the ear of locals Ben Edwards and Delaney Davidson playing under her own name, Hanna Harding, alongside band The Eastern
Aldous Harding’s lead single, ‘Hunter’, has been characterised by Harding as a ‘gothic fairytale’. This is folk music, simple and bleak with Harding’s fragile coo reminiscent of retiring, 60s-era folk singers Vashti Bunyan and Linda Perhacs. ‘Hunter’ seems to occupy a place outside of time, opening with the refrain, ‘He’s a hunter, he’s a good man/Be brave when he brings you nothing home’ and closing with a vision of blood streaming down a river. While Hunter grabbed all the headlines TrendEngel wants to give you the chance to get to know another side of Aldous: Stop Your Tears off her debut record:

Kaymet – The Revival of the Tray

kaymet-s18powder-s.orange-Kaymet has been manufacturing high-quality aluminium trays and trolleys in south London since 1947, when company founder Sydney Schreiber set out to find new uses for machinery that had been employed making parts for radios and radar equipment during the Second World War. This is a beautiful piece of art – a classic that is having a comeback – big time. Available in so many great stores or directly on the website
