Django Django – Brilliant Comeback Single – First Light
Django Django are back with a bang. First Light is the new single and let me tell you – it’s brilliant would be an understatement.The quartet of David Maclean (drummer and producer), Vincent Neff (singer and guitarist), Jimmy Dixon (bassist), and Tommy Grace (synthesizer operator) met at Edinburgh College of Art, and formed Django Django in London in 2009.trendENgel can’t wait for the followup album to their self titled debut from 2012. Whiplash – This is the Movie Deserving the Oscar
This is possibly the best movie of the year. Intense and gratifying in every way. Whiplash rocks (or jazzes?). The film stars Miles Teller as a young jazz drummer who attends one of the best music schools in the country under the tutelage of the school’s fearsome maestro of jazz (J. K. Simmons). Those who find Jazz utterly boring and ancient will be taught a lesson. It ain’t. Whiplash is cinema at its best and J.K. Simmons is the new Marlon Brando – kind of – a shoe in for best supporting actor at the Oscars.
The Philosophy of Beards – Finally we Know
The beard is here to stay and stronger than ever. Reminding us that since ancient times the beard has been an essential symbol of manly distinction, Thomas S. Gowing (whom we trust had a spectacular beard) presents a moral case for eschewing the bitter bite of the razor. He contrasts the vigor and daring of the bearded—say, lumberjacks and Lincoln—with the undeniable effeminacy of the shaven. Manliness is found in the follicles, and the modern man should not forget that “ladies, by their very nature, like everything manly,” and cannot fail to be charmed by a fine “flow of curling comeliness.” Even old men can hold on to their vitality via their beards: “The Beard keeps gradually covering, varying and beautifying”. The Philosophy of Beards is bot a good read and very educational. Get it.
Purity Ring – Begin Again

German rapper Cro – yes, the dude with the panda mask – has a hidden talent. He is a really talented artist and fashion designer. His label Viovio is hitting al the right notes and has a growing following. All his creations are sold out within a few hours and kids and hipsters alike are crowding the website whenever there is a new collection or even just a new item available. Overrated? Maybe. But definitely pretty cool.

Every year the winner of the BBC Sound list has to brace himself for superstardom. This year’s top price goes to Years & Years.Formed in London, the trio consist of bassist Mikey Goldsworthy, keyboard player Emre Turkmen and vocalist Alexander, who joined the band when Mikey heard him singing in the shower after a party at his house. This is dance music with real heart and soul. Very commercial but man is this catchy:
