A psychologist who begins working with a young boy who has suffered a near-fatal fall finds himself drawn into a mystery that tests the boundaries of fantasy and reality. The trailer makes the film look like a nifty little psychological thriller with shades of the terrific movie Vanishing Waves thrown in for good measure. Actor Max Minghella wrote the screenplay for the film based on the bestselling novel, and this looks to be a promising feature from him and director Alexander Aja (Horns). Hopefully it all comes together and lives up to this trailer. Jamie Dornan, Aaron Paul and Sarah Gordon make a great cast.
Metronomy And Robyn Join Forces – Hang Me Out To Dry
This is a combination made in heaven. Synth poppers Metronome join forces with the Swedish disco queen Robin – It doesn’t get much better than that. Hang Me Out To Dry is the song and hopefully just the start of a beautiful relationship – and if not we can’t wait to hear Metronomy’s new album Joe Mount, Sommer 08:

Vans Goes California – A Perfect Combination
Created in time for the US Open of Surfing, which the skateboard and surf-inspired retail giant appropriately sponsors, the collection has five new shoe designs. There is one slip-on shoe, one ‘Old Skool’ style, a ‘Sk8-Hi’ model and two ‘Authentics.’ Each of these shoes are adorned with either the classic black and white checkers that are one of Vans’ signature designs, or images of California palm trees against a multi-hued backdrop that is presumably a sunset. Er like the new collection of the legendary brand Vans.
Don’t Think Twice – The Importance Of Friendship Revisited
After scoring a sleeper success with 2012’s “Sleepwalk With Me,” which adapted his solo stage show about toiling on the standup circuit, writer-director Mike Birbiglia stretches out a bit — but not too much — with the accomplished seriocomedy “Don’t Think Twice.” Like its predecessor a pleasingly naturalistic insider’s view of life on the lower rungs of showbiz, this more ensemble-focused piece is also somewhat autobiographical, as it draws on Birbiglia’s background training and performing with improv groups. But here a fictive scenario develops in which one member of a longtime improv troupe suddenly wins the comedy lottery of a cast gig on a “Saturday Night Live”-type sketch show, throwing those colleagues left behind into turmoil. This realistic but not excessively downbeat portrait of fame striking a lucky few — and missing everyone else — should build on “Sleepwalk’s” fandom to decent niche returns in various formats. Friendship revisited. The cast including Kate Micucci, Chris Gethard, Gilian Jacobs and Keegan Michael Kay.
Mercato Centrale Firenze – The Food Lovers Paradise
The Mercato Centrale in Florence is possibly the best in Italy. Remodeled a few years ago with the motto: “From farm to kitchen for your pleasure” is a place you love to waste time just browsing, this is the kind of Italy that everyone wants to be a part of. The primo piano of the market is the food court. This is better than any German beer garden and better than any american food court (actually miles better). The quality is beyond believe and the prices marvelous. This is Italian food at its very best. No reservation needed and fun guaranteed.
Phantogram – You Don’t Get Me High Anymore
Their new album will only be out in September but if their new song You Don’t Get Me High Anymore is any indication of the quality of the new record of Phantogram it’ll be worth the wait.
The song presents Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter at their best: One moment it’s a snarling synth-rock banger a la Radiohead’s “Myxomatosis,” the next it’s an emotional computer ballad like Nicki Minaj’s “Truffle Butter” beat bawling its eyes out. Barthel tells Pitchfork the duo’s new album Three will be a dark one, largely inspired by her sister’s suicide.

Bacon Jam – How Crazy Is That?
This isn’t even a trend but I thought you need to know – especially if you believe in the rule: Everything is better than bacon. This is bacon jam. Honestly: fucking bacon jam. This is what the british creators say about it: It came together like magic, in the kitchen of our East London restaurant. Onion jam meets smoky bacon. Blimey, that’s good! Everyone loved it on their burgers, and demanded some to take home. We knew we had a duty to share it with the world.
Essentially this is onion jam mixed with some bacon – really delicious stuff.
julien Baker – Sprained Ankle Will Be Talk of Town
Julien Baker turns concert venues into sacred spaces. When she is onstage, the audience goes hushed, reverential. The only sounds you hear between songs are her fingers as she tweaks the tuning on her electric guitar, scattered whispers between friends, and the rustling as the crowd waits patiently for Baker to start strumming again. She never asks for this quiet from the pit, it just seems to coalesce around her. Baker herself is shy, squeaky, small of stature—an introverted pip in plaid shirts with a Memphis twang and a nervous stutter. But her music seems to demand a certain kind of pin-drop attention the moment she starts to shake her voice loose, flinging it up to the rafters of her range. At Primavera Sounds in Barcelona a few days ago she was standing on stage and grabbing the attention of an audience that didn’t com to see her but to have fun in the sun of Spain. This is unique and deserves our attention.
