Inventory was established in 2009 as an online platform and biannual publication to explore the aesthetic and cultural interests of its founders. By offering a unique and global perspective on design, craftsmanship and culture, both forgo the temporariness of trend to focus on the brands, designers and artists whose bodies of work reflect a commitment to quality, and a desire for innovation.
Working with established and emerging photographers, stylists and writers, the magazine places equal emphasis on accomplished journalism and beautiful imagery, and seeks to represent contemporary icons alongside future influencers. This is a labor of love. TrendEngel can’t wait for the ext issue.
South African photographer Mikhael Subotzky and British artist Patrick Waterhouse have won the Deustche Börse photography prize – the most important European photo prize – for their publication Ponte City, a study of an apartment block in Johannesburg. This is a masterpiece and a document in time of the skyscraper that is a symbol of apartheid. Here is a selection of their winning images:
This Australian brand is around since 1994 and is just amazing. When it comes to design this is probably as good as it gets. Just get a board and start chilling. Globe was founded by two brothers down under and has conquered this world. I know these boards are around a bit. But I just saw the new designs and they are amazing. These are some of the boards TrendEngel likes the most:
Furniture giant Ikea has collaborated with London designer Ilse Crawford to launch a range of cork and natural-fibre homeware products. Unveiled during an event at Crawford’s Ett Hem hotel in Stockholm yesterday, the Sinnerlig collection heavily features natural materials and neutral colours that were chosen to fit into any home.
The first collaboration between Ikea and Studioilse contains a range of around 30 products – from larger furniture pieces such as cork-covered tables and a daybed down to hand-blown glass bottles. The daybed might be TrendEngel’s favorite. Crawford says: “Cork is very much a part of our range, because of its acoustic properties and it works great with glass.”
This will be in stores in August. Pls. mark your calendar as this is to good not to get.
Kaymet has been manufacturing high-quality aluminium trays and trolleys in south London since 1947, when company founder Sydney Schreiber set out to find new uses for machinery that had been employed making parts for radios and radar equipment during the Second World War. This is a beautiful piece of art – a classic that is having a comeback – big time. Available in so many great stores or directly on the website
Yes I know this is not new but first of all Waka Waka give a lot of money to good causes and 2nd of all this is an amazing product. Charge your phone with solar energy anywhere and everywhere and never rely on “dirty” energy and a plug again…also you have light that is much brighter than a regular flashlight – this is what they say about themselves: WakaWaka is an impact driven, social venture that fights to abolish energy poverty throughout the world.
TrendEngel had the opportunity to see this artists show recently in Milano. The buzz is tremendous and people say he could be the next big thing – This sounds very strange if you are aware that Kris Rhus was born in New York in 1952 but looking at his oeuvre and his ability to integrate structure into his work makes you wonder why Rhus was not discovered decades ago. This video shows you some of his work from 3 years ago (400 views – so this is grass roots at its best:
TrendEngel likes Violet magazine. WHO is Violet Magazine for? the woman who wants it all …. the woman who is looking to be educated in an entertaining way. It’s not just floaty, feminine and fabulous! This is one action packed, brimming full of resources for the everyday woman. The female entrepreneur, the woman in business, the woman who would like to work from home, the woman who likes to change things up.
The idea is simple. Take a picture anywhere in the world on the smart phone touch the send button and a real postcard is on its way to whoever you want. Oh, real means PRINTED – on paper or whatever they use. This is not new and there are many apps doing this. PostDroid, Postino and Postagram are some of them. The best is Touchnote. No doubt. Just phantasmic. Check it out. One of Touchnote’s novel features is the optional map print out. When you’re sending out a postcard from your phone, Touchnote reads your GPS location and can include a micro Google map image of your whereabouts, which it prints above the ‘TO’ address. This map block also includes the date and the city or town name, printed in text.
